The Viltrox 27mm f/1.2: A Brilliant New Lens With Autofocus

Viltrox has been making some superb lenses of late — affordable, compact, and fast — and they join a growing market of off-brand manufacturers who produce superb glass. This latest offering is another great addition!

"With autofocus" — what an odd addition to the title right? This isn't 1980. But, as many keen photographers will have noticed, to buck the trend of ever-increasing lens prices, lots of smaller manufacturers, particularly out of Asia, have produced brilliant and extremely quick lenses, with the trade-off being they are manual focus only.

I sing the praises of these lenses for two reasons: firstly, an affordable collection of different focal lengths for different mounts is always welcome. Secondly, having reviewed several, bought several, and used many more, I can confidently say that almost all of them have been excellent. The issue has been that manual focus just doesn't feel great in many scenarios, particularly when you're pairing it with bodies that have excellent autofocus systems and eye AF. Well, now AF is being added to these lenses more frequently.

The new Viltrox 27mm f/1.2 is one such lens with AF and Christopher Frost has some positive words to share about it in this review. Fuji users, this one's for you!
