Which Camera Rules Micro Four Thirds?

Micro Four Thirds has a loyal following among photographers and videographers who value its light weight and portable size, high-quality lenses, and innovative features. If you are interested in the system and wondering which camera is right for you, this great video compares two upper-level options: the Panasonic Lumix G9 and the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III.

Coming to you from DPReview, this helpful video compares the Panasonic Lumix G9 and the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III cameras. Micro Four Thirds is a great alternative to APS-C and full frame if you are looking for something lighter and more portable. Typically, you can fit an entire kit of multiple bodies and a range of lenses in a single bag, perfect for someone who travels a lot or spends a lot of time with their gear on their back. The Panasonic G9 has some fantastic features, such as a very rugged body, 4K 60p video, an 80-megapixel high-resolution mode, and a continuous shooting rate of 60 fps at 8 MP or 30 fps at 18 MP. Meanwhile, the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III has the company's astounding 7.5-stop in-body stabilization, an 80-megapixel high-resolution mode and handheld 50-megapixel high-resolution mode, and Live ND and Live Composite modes. Both cameras are quite innovative options; check out the video above for the full rundown.

Any non-Micro Four Thirds camera?

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema camera.

The best hands down. I love my bmpcc 4k. It smokes these other cameras.

I still use a g6, with the trivial hack to unlock indefinite recording time and 1080p60 (mine's a UK model only normally offering 1080p50).

It'd be interesting to know what can be unlocked with the g9.

Honestly I really like the Micro 4/3 system, but I dont prefer these big chunky bodies. I think the main strength of this system is a small form factor, just look at the size of the Panasonic GX lineup and the lenses like Pana 20mm f/1.7, Laowa 7,5mm or the Olympus 45mm f/1.8. The image quality is not far from the APS-C cameras, but the overall footprint is much more smaller and it makes this system a killer travel companion.

The Olysonic Bmagic! With all the quality interchangeability and lens adaptability in a portable kit, M43 is king as a long term toolset! Get a few bodies and a dozen lenses and shoot away! It’s all good! M43 was designed & intended for flexible interchangeability, imo.
