Ruth Carll's picture

Root Cellar

I stumbled across this door behind an old abandoned house in Clay Pit Creek. I think the thing that captivates me about these old doors I've been posting is the idea of doors as gateways and that these old doors have been used hundreds of times by _______ to do/go ________. They say "if these walls could talk" but I'd love it if these doors could do the same! This image is currently being used by a friend who teaches creative writing at our local community college as story prompt. I hope it has an effect on your creative minds as well!

Feedback welcome.

Nice job, Ruth! The image expresses exactly the sentiments you describe, for me. Its quiet, naturalistic atmosphere is appealing, even though I guess it's likely you used "post" to create the spotlight effect.

A girl never tells. Ok, you dont have to twist my arm - i did.

Cheat! I must admit, you've done it so well it could be natural.

In that case .... it was the sun? wink

'Course it was!

Wonderful find Ruth, I agree wholeheartedly with the story and love your idea of the 'gateway'.

I would never have guessed that this wasn't lit by that one ray of sun breaking through and hitting the door at the perfect time......... but then again, isn't all creative art about painting an illusion for the viewer?

So you're a cheat too! REALLY...

And he doesn't like your cloud. 🤗

YEAH.

Ha, if I liked every cloud that was thrown my way I'd...… well I'd be something. If you want to see a good cloud check out this image - one of my favorites....

Wow! Guy's a genius. Wish I'd taken that.

My words exactly.....

But seriously, Alan - thanks.

Aren't we all?

Not I. Pure as the driven snow. 0 :-)
