ICM on the beach

With beaches opening up in a limited fashion in New England I got the chance to get out and flex some exploratory ICM muscles.

Here's a couple of impressionistic images for review. I'm not expecting these to fit all tastes but would love to hear comments (both good and bad) from the community.

There are no wrong comments (especially for this type of work), each opinion is both relevant and welcomed. Everyone that has a set of eyes and an opinion is qualified to comment - no expertise needed.

The second one appeals to me a lot more. Incidentally, I'll be visiting a local lake with a good beach for a reshoot of the tree I tried to do a Pep Ventosa with. I may try to do something like this. I tried last time I was there, but I didn't get anything nearly this good.

Thanks Matthew. The trick is to play about with shutter speed (I had a 6 stop ND filter installed) and try to anticipate the image.Take lots of shots and view the results of each if you can (I had to use a loupe) so you can adjust accordingly.

As with all work, composition matters, so make sure you view as you would any other image.

Good luck with the tree!

Thank you! for the advice! I still need to buy a ND filter, but I have been looking. I have another idea for a photo at the beach, but that one is going to be a surprise.

Very interesting... I love the soft tones and high-key, it makes the images feel warmer, which it would be on a bright day at the beach. I'm up in Connecticut, stay cool out there; it's been crazy hot!

This sparked a thought, so I ran an image thru Topaz Studio using one of my own presets for impressionistic works... You can hate this if you want, it's all good.. I know this goes more into creative editing over purist photography. But just tossing out ideas... for fun. :)

I like the look Joe, and thanks for suggesting/sharing.

The one thing I don't like is that the character on the let no longer has a right leg! Overall it looks great though and provides food for thought.

If you happen across a missing leg in your travels let me know :-)

"Where we're going, we don't need legs!" ~Robot Chicken episode flashback.. lol.

Good point Joe!

Wow Joe. This has more artistic connection. a definite direction to lead to. Liked the warmer and brighter intensity.

While both are great, I think I'm partial to the 1st because the sand/water ratio does more for me. And the composition of the layers is spot on.

I miss the beach...thanks for the getaway.

Thanks for making the effort to comment Bruce. The beach sure was a treat, the opportunity to shoot making it even more so.

I'm not aware of the sand/water ratio rule, but am really glad I made it work for you :-)
