That weekend, I woke up at 4:50am, thinking I would be able to get photos of the sunrise & the morning fog. But it turned out that the sunrise was a LOT later than I expected that day, and this is a photo taken with minimal light from the "late" morning sun.
Original (1st): Image taken at near 6 am, a stack of three (almost) identical images for noise reduction, seriously underexposed.
After (2nd & 3rd): Two seperate styles, minimalist, surreal.

I like both the orange and the blue versions, but the orange seems to have some banding going on. That makes the blue the winner for me.
Thank you soooo much! I haven't realized the banding until you told me! I have fixed the problem now but it still exist when I upload to Fstoppers.
I've heard Fstoppers has a bad compression algorithm. I've not had issues myself, but this is a common concern.
Yeah. I've heard that too. It now seems to be in terms of detail and bit depth.
How did you fix the banding? I've seen it crop up on shots I take with my EOS RP which I don't recall seeing on shots with my 90D.
Just add a little bit of noise. Most of the times all you'll need is the minimum you could add on your software, without changing the opacity of the adjustment layer. Hope that helps! :-D
P.S. I had only tried that with 16-bit photos. Not sure if it works with 8-bit ones.

If you are viewing the photos on-camera then it might be the compression algorithms of the thumbnail causing the trouble. So check again.
Since you've fixed the banding, the orange is most appealing.

Hi Hunter, late to the party on this one. I'd love to see the histogram on this - I suspect you are losing shadow detail as the original is so under-exposed.
I think both images may exhibit the effect of being pushed so far, but if that is the effect you are after then this obviously works.
I think both have appeal in their own rights, and I'm all for keeping multiple versions that tell different stories.
I had intended to let it lose shadow when I shot the photo, in order to get a plain silhouette. And that is also the reason I underexposed it :-D
By the way, I keep different versions too! :-p
