Water ICM

I shot this in Newport News last Labor Day weekend while exploring ICM. This was a 1.6sec exposure panning left to right if I remember correctly. The waves seemed to be smoothed out but I don't feel I maximized the effect. I posted color and black and white to gauge preference.

Interested in your opinions.

Hi Bruce. You definitely have some ICM bur here, and I really like the coloring of the first.
For a 1.6sec exposure I would have expected the detail in the waves to be lost, but of course that is dependent on pan speed also.

As always with ICM it pays to take a large number of shots, varying the speed of the pan and even the types of movement. Whilst a horizontal pan is traditionally used for seascapes interesting results can be achieved by using a non-linear pan (eg wavy) - it's all a matter of trial and error.

Good work, I really like the peaceful mood of the first image, I personally feel it loses its best qualities when converted to B&W.

Thanks, Alan! I appreciate the tips!

Not sure if you are aware Bruce but I have a variety of ICM samples on my site, blog articles etc. Just something that might spark ideas;

Yes, and I should revisit - it's been a while. I also follow your Instagram 👍

Let me know your IG a handle - there are a LOT of Bruce Grants out there.....

I certainly agree with Alan here. The nice hues of the color in the top image make it stand out in comparison. Good work, and I'm glad to see you experimenting with the ICM.

Thanks, Matthew! Glad you like it. I'm definitely looking to do more now that I'm getting out of the house more often.
