Finally had a chance last evening to take some motion images. I was sitting on the grass at a local park, bored with the subjects around me, when I decided to try some intentional camera movement using a Sourwood Tree as my subject.
Numbers 1, 3, 5, & 6 were all caused by either rotating the lens or rotating the camera body. Numbers 2, 4, & 7 were caused by slightly moving the camera vertically.
I used my Canon 55-250mm lens, f/22-32, 2-4 second exposure time, and iso100. I de-saturated the greens and yellows and increased the contrast a bit in post to bring out some of the details a little more
I've tried rotating the lens in the past without liking the effect. This time I think it came out well (#s 5 and 6). Also I think the type of tree lent itself well as subject for ICM. I'll post the original tree in the comments.
Hope you are all well!
Sourwood Tree without ICM effect
Love them, especially the first and the sixth. I like the palatte as well. Lush.
Exactly! The subject provided the effect for sure. Hope you are doing well, Chris.
Chris B said it for me! I also like the last one, But again like with your other recent post, Jennifer, the first one has a special appeal.
I often prefer the first one in a series of posted images, as in these cases, and find myself wondering if that's the reason the poster put it first...
Love your adventurous spirit, Jennifer!
Normally that would be correct, Chris; but for some reason (probably due to posting confusion on my part), they're in this order. My favorites are actually 2 and 7. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it!
I like 5 of 7 and 6 of 7 most because it reminds me star trails.
You do great work Jennifer!
That's what I was thinking too, Dean. It was the first successful-ish lens rotation. Thanks for commenting.
Jennifer, it's lovely to see you continually experimenting with this technique. Number five is the one that "works" to the greatest extent for me. That said, I'm not sure any of these photos really stand out to me. I've never quite gone for the more "extreme" ICM for some reason. That's not a knock on your work or on these photos at all. They just aren't my cup of tea. Please keep up the great work and experimentation. I really love seeing what you come up with.
Apart from our personal favourite images here, Matthew, I totally agree with you about ICM - and about Jennifer's spirit of creative exploration!
