I believe it was group member @brucegrant that posted some old rusted out cars sometime this past summer. His post sparked an idea in me. I live near the Occoneechee Speedway in Hillsborough, North Carolina. The speedway was one of the first 2 NASCAR tracks to open and is the only remaining dirt track.
Anyways, there are two old rusted out race cars left on the track. I was going for a kind of an eerie spooky vibe as that's the kind of vibe I get in general at the speedway (it's in the middle of the woods). I wanted the background to be dark but the car still bright so I used a few flash pops to light the car while also keeping the background darker.
In post, I composited the flash pops together. I felt these looked better and were more of what I was going for in black and white. I also decided to have some fun with it and added a skeleton "driving the car" with generative fill in photoshop. Just in time for Halloween. Any feedback would be welcomed.
Good idea, Kyle. You definitely succeeded in eerie. The flashes were just right. I can actually feel the lights suddenly turning on in the middle of the darkness and hear the cars starting up. The first and third are my favorites - the light feels natural. The second feels too "flashish." Nice job! I enjoyed your post and images!
Hi Kyle, I was holding off on commenting and this kind of fell to one side.
This is a great idea, and I think the images work well, I especially like the first for multiple reasons.
Can't wait to see what you produce for the November challenge (I know you have a lot to offer....), and hear you voice on the posts of other members.
