I am a beginner but this is what i think
1) I think i would have put more light in this shot a flash may or just higher ISO , stop or two would do. Posing is nice !
2) I would have made the left hand fingers more visible i guess !

The white background to the left is a little distracting. Like the color of her sweater....it comes through nicely. I will have to remember that color when I shoot models in the future.
Like the retouch work on her face. Not too heavy, like many shots I see. I would like to see more attention around her eyes. They could be brighter.
I was involved, very recently, in a discussion about the need to use fill in flash. In the photo in question I thought the use was not needed. However, in this quite similar photo I think it is needed. The white wall being so much brighter than the subject requires the use of a soft (diffused) fill in (subtly applied) flash. The available light is far too soft for a reflector to be enough. Adding about 1/2 or 1 stop of fill in from the camera's left side would have been very helpfull in correcting the tonal balance and adding subtle emphasis to the eyes, which are beautiful but which would have been better for the exta light softly illuminating and reflecting from them.
Congratulations though on not falling into the trap of allowing the white wall to bleach away to lift the girl, which would have been awful. I suspect this image can be improved by editing in Photoshop, or whatever, by lightening the girl, so all is not lost. Although for me getting a bit closer in camera, through the use of artificial light, would be the best start to perfecting this image
You have nice use of colour in this image with the sweater, lipstick nail varnish and make-up/skin tone all working together, extremely well.
Over all a good job and so nearly a very good job.
Hmm, what discussion might that have been Ian?? ;)
Hey Ben,
I love the shot. Like mentioned above, the colours and tone of the image is very nice. But it can use some lightening in the face. That sounds simple enough, but with the bright white background, it's hard to find a balance of not "distracting", while at the same time not having to darken it too much.
The discussion Ian mentioned above was long, but had a lot of good food for thought in the discussion of using only natural light vs. fill flash or even reflectors. Looking at this photo, I actually think the details are there, if you pushed the "shadows" slider a bit more in an editor. If you're shooting raw that detail should come out pretty effortlessly without much noise.
Great shot overall, but like many, could be made better; that's why we're all here
I was short of time earlier so did not click on the photo, to view it better against a black screen. Having now done so I have to say it is much better than I saw it as being against the white of this page. The shaddow details and her face, including her eyes, look so very much better. Please accept my apologies for making too much of the perceived deficiancies. You have done a very good job, much better than I thought. Sorry.
Personally I don't find the white wall distracting at all, it looks cool and helps in framing her. eyes are perfect, any brighter it will look crazy. Indeed, all you need to do is bring out some highlights in the face. Awesome pic!

It is truly amazing how the picture changes character based on the background,
didn't notice it until you mentioned it!
