Portrait in Caravaggio style. Which one do you prefer?

Did a portrait session in my living room. It was daytime, so I was using HSS technique with one flash and a 120cm Nanlite parabola softbox to cut the ambient light. The softbox was positioned right above the model. It was shot on Nikon D810 with a 85mm lens at F1.4, 1/4000 sec, ISO 100. I also tried to give a blue filter to have a night mood. Which one do you prefer?

They're both very good. Did you position the light directly overhead or did you feather it some?

Thank you Robert for your feedback! Yes, I did feather it a little toward the camera, so it wouldn't spill on the back of the room.

very nice. love the lighting so soft and beautyfull

I like them both but I have to pick the 1st as my favorite.

When I went to B&H Depth of Field last year I sat down with Mel DiGiacomo for a portfolio review. No one else wanted to. He suggested I try incorporating Caravaggio into my work. I may have to revisit.

Great work. Have you shot in this style before?

Thank you Bruce for your feedback! Yes, I try to involve the chiaroscuro style in my works when it fits into the mood. I used to be a painter for 10 years, this is one of my favourite techniques, so simple and effective.

I remember chiaroscuro style from school when i was an acting major.

Awesome transition into photography. Love your work!

Hi Janos. Returning again. in fact why compare? Both frames have their own identity. Seeing blue toned image in isolation and felt it to be equally good for its mood, its effect for shadows.

Hence changing my opinion.
