I think it is a very good photograph. Yes the eyes are over done, you knew that. The other issue I have with it is that it grabs me as being lit with a symetrical approach but the effect on one side of the face is markedly different to the effect on the other side. I feel it might be better, at least in some ways, if both lights were the same quality and strength and angle, etc.
Bottom line it is a good photograph, which just needs a bit more polish and a bit less, eyes. Good job.
I agree with you and Ian about the eyes. It also seems like the depth of field is just a little too shallow with the nose being out of focus. I also feel like there may have been some sharpening done to the face that wasn't needed. Overall it's a good photo that can be improved with a bit more polish.
