So, do I give you credit for being a very good photographer, or are you still a novice shooting happy snaps, pun intended, sorry?
When I first saw this, some hours ago, I thought it was out of place, being a snapshot of a very happy fellow, shot with a simple direct flash gun and framed like a snapshot taken by a total non photographer, who got lucky with the exposure and focus.
Now I am not so sure. Perhaps you skillfully crafted the image to look just as described above, and that is a very photographically skilled result and a worthy artistic work.
I hope when I have finished this piece, and when I check to see your portfolio that you have a collection of equally slick images, rather than loads of rubbish snaps. I am out on a limb her but I suspect you know exactly what you are doing and this is a great image of a bloke having a hilarious time. And I really like it.
Huston, we have a problem. I went out on a limb, below. I hoped that you would have a fab portfolio of wonderful images that prove my view that your happy-snap is a very good photograph crafted with skill and artistic talent. But no this was not to be. In fact you have not published a portfolio of any kind. So, perhaps you are a talent or perhaps you are not yet a photographer, I have no evidence beyond the two things known to me.
1 Your happy-snap above.
2 You have joined F Stopper's Portrait group.
So, I don't have enough evidence to aquit or condem you but on the basis of what I see and some gut instinct, I am going to judge you skilled and tallented. Well done.
Thanks for you comments! I am far from being a good photographer haha! This was not intended as a snap, I tried to get the mood in this photo (also it was quite a challenge to nail the focus since I only had my X100S with me so I had to manual focus). I was just wondering in a bar with my camera when I saw this happy pal laughing and having a good time (maybe this shot could be included in street photography or other category so sorry if I got it wrong). It was not posed or anything, I was just In the right place at the right time. The only flash I had with me was the fuji EF-20 which didn't give me a lot of mobility. I don't currently have a portfolio here (the only one i have is on 500px https://500px.com/andrei_diaconu). I know my portfolio is neither that big nor that good but I am just starting out haha. Again thank you for your comment!
You may be short of experience but that does not equate absolutely to the question of your skill. You set out to shoot this image and you nailed it with the kit to hand and it is full of the fun you were trying to capture. Job done, and done well.
I had a look at your portfolio on 500px.com. Suffice to say, as a collection they are absolutely fine. Nothing to be embarassed about there at all. Like I mentioned, you are a good photographer. Have a word with yourself and get some confidence in your abilities.
