Eye Trouble

I recently took this picture of a squirrel in my backyard. I only have a 300 mm zoom, so an opportunity to get this close is rare. I like the composition and coloration of the image, but I have a question about the eye. I notice the strong reflection in this particular image, and don't enjoy it. What can I do to get rid of it without rendering the eye an impenetrable black hole? If it helps, I do my editing on ON1 Photo Raw 2020

Edit: The image looks over sharpened when viewed on Fstoppers, but I don't see it in the original file. Do I need to be concerned about that?.

Cool shot! I don't find the reflection distracting. It doesn't look over sharpened to my eye.

Thank you very much Troy!

I personally think that if you removed the light in the eye it would look weird. All eyes, even humans, have some sort of reflection naturally. As far as sharpness goes, I don't think it looks too sharp.

That's kind of what I was talking about with the whole "black hole" phrase. It just looks strange.

I think the eye looks great as is, you normally want some catch-light on the eye for animals to avoid the "blackhole" effect. :)

The over-sharpening would be caused by compression on the site; though I'm not seeing any myself, looks good here. 2k monitor.

Thank you very much.
