Hey all! So I got a lot of awesome feedback from my last photo I posted (Natural Light #4). The only complaint was the eyes were over done, which I agree. But aside from that it looked like a lot of you guys liked the photo and edit which I greatly appreciate. Which brings me to the next topic, here's my most recent work and I was wondering what you guys think? I wanted to do something different from what I usually do and add motion. I had her take a few steps and turn around. This shot took many tries but once I saw it through the preview I knew it was going to be the one. This was taken between two buildings which gave a nice tunnel of light to her, all natural light. Shot on the Canon 6D with the 85mm at f1.8. I guess what I like about this photo is her expression and the movement of her hair. We got lucky with a little wind to help us with that. But yea, what do you guys think? (Again if there's a double post I apologize)
I think itis excellent although I think the whites of her eye are over edited. It has great energy and movement. The light may be a little flat but overall a considerable success.
Thank you, agh again with the eyes haha. Ok, maybe for future edits I should just leave the eyes as is :p
What I like to do is put all eye edits into one group. Then after doing all edits to the eyes zoom out and see if it looks unnatural. Then if it does look unnatural drop the opacity of the eye group by like 20-50% as needed. Great image otherwise!
Also another tip on making eyes look real. The eye whites are too consistent through out the eyeball. Add shadow to the top of the eye ball makes it look more realistic. Way I do it is if you used white brush and blended it on the eyes to do the whitening, take the eraser tool at about 50% opacity and feather it to take some of the brightness off the top of eye ball.
Wow, that's awesome! Thank you for the tip! I'll keep it in mind for my next photoshoot/edits! :)
Nice motion and emotion! The hair flick is great. Perhaps a little soft with the skin which particularly flattens the bridge of her nose. And probably not much you could have done but the crop and angle isn't overly flattering how it tapers out from her chest to her waste. When you crop with lines like that your mind continues the image down making her wider whereas if there was more of her in the picture you would see it taper back in to give shape. You could maybe cheat with a bit of liquify in this instance as the shot appears to be making her bigger than I assume she is (as opposed to liquifying someone purely just to make them thinner then they are).
Thank you for your feedback. I see what you're saying. I agree that the crop is off and I thought of that as well when I saw it. But this one was the best (in my opinion) out of the 66 times we did it. For me I don't really like using the liquify tool, but that's just me.
I second his opinion, for me I would have cropped a bit more at the bottom just to make sure the eyes wont follow more,
btw nice photo and really love the lighting you have, perfect.
Thanks, it's all natural light. I just found a nice alleyway to take the picture at.
Stop clipping your blacks...
I'll keep that in mind. I'm sure I've done it in my previous edits too. I wouldn't be surprised if I blown out highlights too. But thanks, no one has told me that yet so it's something new to consider for me.
