Honest Critique Welcome!

Hey everyone. I'm really just getting started as a photographer. I'm a total amateur but I have been doing my best to learn as much as I can and improve. When I discovered Fstoppers, I was excited to jump in and learn from others.

This is one of many from a recent maternity shoot that I did and I'm looking for some honest feedback. I'd love to hear both positive and negative as long as it helps me improve.

This was shot around 3 pm not far from our home with a Canon T4i. Did just a tiny bit of processing in Adobe Camera Raw but kept it light because I wanted to preserve a natural look.

Here's another from the same shoot.

This is a nice simple shot done well and she is smiling. What's not to like? You even avoided the trap of underexposing, because of the large white dress fooling your built in meter. Well done. I would say her face looks a little yellow, which I assume was not due to make-up. But maybe it was, because her wrists and hands seem OK, so far as I can tell. Her clothes and the trees look like the correct colours, so maybe it is a make-up thing. I'd select the face and reduce the yellow, just a tad. Apart from that, Bob's your uncle. Good job.

I did not see the second photo. No yellow face this time. Excellent. The scenery behind her is nice but not keen on the rusty wire and old fence post. It is also very slightly dark. But I do mean very slightly. I get it, that we have a back lit scene this time. And there is that smile again. Nice work.

Thank you for taking the time to reply, Ian. Now that you mention it, I CAN see a bit of yellow in her face on the first image. I like the technique you described about comparing the tones of her hands and wrists to that of her face. Something I'll be looking for in the future.

The barbed wire and fence post were a way of incorporating a bit of ruggedness, since she is having a boy. I can see where it coiuld be considered a bit of an odd clash, though.

Thanks again!
