My First Beauty Shoot

This was my first attempt for a beauty shoot using the Profoto soft light reflector What do you think.

It's a good first try and starting point! A few things I'd tweak to make it better next time:

* Try to light the background separately. Here you can see the left and right of the frame are not lit similarly (gray on the left, closer to white on the right).

* If you have enough strobes (4 is a good starting point for this kind of image), start by placing the beauty dish to get the lighting you wish on her face. Then light the background evenly with two strobes (be careful not to get flare), and finally set a reflector like you did here. However, don't use the reflected light from the beauty dish to fill the shadows, instead place the reflector however it'd need to be set if it were a light source on its own. Then use a strobe with a grid and bounce the light into the reflector. You'll have a lot more control this way as you can adjust the fill exactly to what it needs to be in term of angle and intensity of light.

I hope that helps! I plan on writing a few articles describing lighting setups for portraits and beauty, so keep an eye for those in the coming weeks :)

Thanks I will try your tip out on my next beauty shoot and upload it.

Looking forward to seeing your new work! :)

Happy Easter Quentin. Here is my recent beauty shoot. I followed the steps you said to take. It made editing and touch up much easier. What do you think.

paul are you using a light meter your shots all have too many areas blown out on skin

Hello Dennis. I used the Profoto TTL . Then adjusted the light manually.
