Your lighting looks good, the depth of field looks about right and his expression is good, as is the direct eye to eye contact.
However, the head leaning out of the frame does not work for me, in this case. And the tonal range is a bit too limited, blacks not looking black and the highlights are too dark, even the little almost specular reflection in the corner of the eye but more importantly the reflections in the pupils. These are indicators that the entire highlight proportion of the file is too dark. In short the tonal range is not contrasty enough. I know the effect you were going for and it is not easy to get. So keep on playing with your image and practicing your craft. Best of luck.
Overall I like it. It has a feel of the very famous photograph of Earnest Hemmingway, well done.
