A very simple shot. Of course there is absolutely nothing wrong with simple shots and this one has been done quite well. You have used and handled a backlight situation well and the girl looks lovely. I really like the informal cold day at the beach vibe with the wind swept un-groomed hair and the yellow fill, reflected light from the sand, or whatever it may be, matching the highlight on her left side, camera right. The fill, quite correctly, has a slight bias from the camera right side where the daylight is coming from, opposite to what many do when placing reflectors.

On the other hand I feel the cropping is a bit off, either including too much forehead or too little neck, by just a tad. I think I wourld prefer the crop a bit looser, to include a bit of her neck and a bit more place, behind her.

Nice simple shot, like I said, and they are never quite as simple as they might appear.

Agreed on all points, including the crop

Cropping is too tight for me. Also, not much here that differentiates from a snapped photo with a disposable. Eyes are dark, and the background is washed out which adds to the dull feeling of the overall look. Looks like no post processing to speak of with sand in the hair and slanted horizon (waves?) that cuts through the middle of the subjects head. Just not feeling this one. With a little work it could be much better. To me this one says "I was sitting in my beach chair with a beer in my hand and my girlfriend walked out of the surf looking for a chip, so I snapped one off." Not very exciting. The low setting sun highlighting from the right is the only redeeming quality, but it has too much work to do to make this shot work. Sorry for the blunt critique, but anything else would be lying to you. I think Ian's description of "simple shot" fits.

Thanks for the great input guys! I really appreciate it and will take into account for my upcoming shots/edits!
