Paul Watt's picture

I got this one this morning

Hi all, I got this one this morning and I can't quite make my mind up about it (There seems to be a lot of this going around at the moment!) so I wondered what you guys thought? Portfolio image or near miss?

I think you have done a good job. All theseshots tend to be a bit boring really but this one not so much becasue of the colours but also the stuff in the foreground, mid ground and distance, which many such shots don't have all of.

Thanks Ian :) It's been a struggle getting this shot. The tides, weather and sun rise rarely seem to coincide properly often.

Paul, these are very minor, but the two things I think could be different are:

1) Remove whatever that thing on the horizon is, and
2) Work the composition a bit to see if you can get the horizon and the post away from the center of the frame.

That second one I'm not even 100% sure about; part of me likes the broken rule of thirds on this image.

The contrasting pink/blue is fantastic, and the image is buttery smooth. Great work!

Thanks Bob :) I was looking at the composition but if I get the horizon higher there's just boring (and messy) sand in the foreground, If I go lower it just mostly blank sky and with that cloud so low on the horizon for some reason it just doesn't work.

Paul,
I love it! The pole-horizon cross at mid image works for me with the foreground and far horizon element. I would clean up the bottom of the image as I see something on top of the right post and sensor spots (?) which distract my eye. My vote would be "Portfolio".

Thanks Mike :) I really need to clean my sensor, I always seem to miss some spots! The thing on top of the right post is part of the rocks in the centre - you're right, it does look a bit messy. To Photoshop!

I think that is something like the crop suggested.

Thanks! That looks much better :) Here it is with it's new crop: https://fstoppers.com/photo/102355

That look fine. Nice one.
