CC please

I've been trying for about 7 months now to get a really good sunrise shot of this pier. Think I'm getting close but could I have some cc on this please? Thanks guys.

i think its very beautiful! I think, if you were to make the pier a silhouette, you can make the iso lower... let me know if that helps

Thanks :) It was intentional not to make the pier a silhouette, I was trying to balance getting the details of the pier and the sunrise in one exposure. I might darken the sky a little though. I usually shoot my stuff at iso 100 but I'd shot a wedding the day before and forgot to take my iso off "Auto"(and forgot to check my ISO altogether!) so this is at ISO 800.

ohh okay. if you try maybe iso 400 it might still detail the pier, but you may just have to experiment a little though

Sorry, that link is now dead because I pulled the photo. The sky was looking a little to bright for my liking and a little blown out so I tweaked a bit in LR. https://fstoppers.com/photo/102554

Paul, I think you have it more or less exactly right. No silhouette needed here. It is so much more interesting and 3D for the detail retained.

However, if you had wanted to make the pier black, changing the ISO would not help in any material way, of course. Stopping down or increasing your shutter speed would have helped and then the rest would be a Photoshop or Lightroom edit.

I reitterate, in my veiew it does not need to be black. And you have kept an acceptable level of detail in the highlights, which is the trick to most photogrpahs, not the level of shaddow detail, or lack there of.

It is a nice shot, very well judged, well done.

Thanks Ian, I've had loads of near misses trying to get this. It's great to finally have a "keeper"!

Paul,

Very nice! I like being able to see some detail in the buildings. I like the horizon placement and sun position.

Mike

Thanks Mike :) I've been trying to get a shot like this for ages (I've got a lightroom catalogue full of near misses!) , it's nice to be finally able to scratch that particular itch!
