Taranaki Falls walk

Happy New Year all.

I thought I'd share a couple of photos which I took while on one the loop tracks in the Tongariro National Park. The first is Taranaki Falls, and the second a little further down stream from the falls itself.

Open to feedback as always.

I rarely use upright compositions and when I do it is often in a landscape situation, which is unusual generally. Here you have 2 good examples of upright landscapes. These are very strong compositions and lovely images, especially the waterfall, as it has more drama, from the height and the power of the falling water. The rather over-done blue-cyan cast also adds something. I am not convinced about the colour cast but nore am I decidedly against it. The jury is out on this point.

Well done.

Thanks Ian,

I notice that after I uploaded these, that the waterfall had a droplet on the filter, so I remove this and toned down the waterfall a little which I think looks better overall.

Both are lovely, I do find the top one a bit dark. Great work

Great shots. I quite like that the top one is a little dark, makes it a bit different to other waterfall shots I've seen.

Wondering what make of ND filter you have used, whether you have done much colour correction in both - I'm not sure about the blue cast on the waterfall, but the stream looks much more natural colouring - although a slight blue cast making for some blueness in the white parts of the water, and a general cold effect in the whole image..

Hi Mike,

I've got few Lee filters which I kind of inherited (thankfully as the cost a heap) I've since correct the colour cast in both images since uploading these originally. Although the coolness the blue cast I feel to some degree adds to the conditions that were present when the photo was taken been late evening in an alpine climate in a the shadow of the valley the old lava flow ran.

Thanks

Jason
