Michael Lacy's picture

Early Morning Walk

Got this image of a wooded path just as the sun was rising. I have attempted to process the image to capture the feeling of the early morning. CC appreciated on the results.

Micheal, while the overall concept of the image is spot on, it does not really do the scene justice. I know because i have seen it before and i know the feeling it brings, but i too have yet to really capture it. The post processing is on the way there, but i think there could be some improvement. It is a little too cool temp wise, which isn't a big deal, it just looks overdone. The composition is good given the area and how difficult it is to get a good composition in the woods, but i think you would do best if you went on a hike specifically to get "that shot" that you had in mind, and a better composition will greatly improve the emotion and realness.

Hope this helped out a bit.
Cheers

Hi Tyler...It was a very cool morning light with high clouds and a light ground fog. I was wanting my tripod real bad but pushed the iso up a bit to handhold the shot at F2. thanks for the CC. here is a B&W version.

I find that this is actually good. You get the original idea but can't make it prefect given the circumstances, so it drives you to create something much better

With the mist and the composition I'm instantly reminded of "The blair witch project". I like it, it evokes an emotion but it doesn't blow me away,
Paul

Hi Mike, this is great photo. Although the scene to me looks like the one's in the movie. Lol

Again, nice photo! :D

I like it in colour and think you have done it justice, in terms of the post processes. Early am light can indeed have that exact look. I might have prefered more tree height less forground mud, so a slight tilt up or even just a crop of the forground. However, what would make the shot for me would be a subject, on the trail. Any animate subject but ideally somethng of size; a person walking a dog, a hunter carrying a rifle or shot gun, a couiple of lovers arm in arm, a deer, a horse being ridden at the walk, to go with the quiet mood etc.

I do find the bright dot on the distant bend distracting. I also think the point of focus is too near, better near the frosty looking grass on the bend in the middle of the shot or just past it, or just more depth of field. The mud does not need to be sharp.

Overall a good job Michael as usual.
