Brenden King's picture

Cityscape of Hong Kong Island

I am happy with how this turned out. It is a three frame panorama 30 sec exposures at iso 100, f/14 and the boat is actually there, but that was a fourth photo since it was shot at 1/60 sec to keep it from blurring. Any CC are welcome and appreciated. Thanks.

I really love this! The boat is my favorite part, as I may or may not be attracted to the colour red lol I'm not sure if it's just me bu the city line seem to bow slightly.. is that just my eyes?

Thanks for the inputs. I see the curving too. I will fix it.

My immediate reaction was long exposure panorma with a sharp boat, well done. In deed, well done. Crystal spotted my next observation, the bowing or as I saw it the converging verticals, same issue and a result of the camera not being verical/horizontal but tilted up, slightly, I'd guess. Not that I have done any panorama work so it may be something else to do with stitching.

In many shots converging verticals are imposible to avoid and in such situations they tend to look right, anyway. In this HK harbour scene the distances mean we expect the verticals to be vertical. I also find the bright areas in the sails too bright.

Not to be entirely negative, I quite like it, actually, and it brings back fond memories of my 1997 visit just before hand-over back to China.

Thanks for the comments. I will try and go fix the horizon, I am torn on the sails as well I have a few different versions with the sails at different levels as well I couldn't decide. I will tone them down a bit. Thanks again for the observations and help.

I tried to address the issue you made note of. Thanks again.

Hi there,

I do prefere the sails, now. Well done.

I have spent just a couple of minutes correcting the verticals, and I think that makes a big difference, too. The original image would undoubtedly be easier to correct perfectly but I am sure you can see what I mean. This one easy fix makes the image look much more professional, imo.

Thanks for the help Ian. I see what you mean. looks much better.
