Lighthouse

Hey everyone! Here's my latest, I'd love some CC on it! This was taken on a trip to Cozumel, Mexico. :) Thank you all!!

I love it!

Very nice! If it were me, I would have cropped tighter to remove some of the foreground that i don't think adds much to the shot. Maybe just before the whitecaps in the green water area. Other than that I love this shot.

Yep, I see what you're talking about and I agree, that super close foreground doesn't really help the image.

I think the crop is fine, the whole shot is fine and there is a great amount of energy in the shot, which is always desireable in such shots. The weather and the light are good or even excellent but somehow I don't love it. I should love it but I don't. It has a sickly church like feel which is beautifully rendered but is trite and a very very dated imagery. I have had a go at editing it to be less eclesiastical and more nature and contemporary. Not sure if I have improved it really but I'll let you decide. 5 mins max. spending 30 mins on it might have done it wonders.

Very interesting take on the image! It definitely intensified the drama of the scene. I'm going to have to go back and take a stab at processing it like this now! :) Thanks for the feedback!

Of course there is no right or wrong and no you don't have to copy my stab at it, but you are welcome to if that is what you now want to do.

I have been told-off today for providing visual CC, editing a version of contributor's work to help me figure out what I would suggest and then to illustrate my conclussions, rather than just thinking and using words to try to explain my thoughts. So I am a bit uncomfortable with thte idea that you have to follow my lead. You do not.

To be clear, your version did not work for me but there was nothing wrong with it and others may love it. I simply tried to figure out why I did not like it or how I might make it more to my taste by experimenting and trial and error. Then I presented my findings for pier review. This is a tried and tested way of working behind all human knowledge advancement. It is now over to my piers to consider my finding in this case.

I'll not be working this, sometimes optimal, way again. I hope you are not afronted by my working on a copy of your image, in order to try my best to provide well developed CC.

Hmmm. interesting take from Ian. He states he thinks the crop is fine, but then effectively takes away the foreground (and the energy of the shot) by blacking it out. That doesn't work for me. I like the color in your shot - the color of the green water especially, combined with the whitecaps is great - and I don't see it as dated. Maybe Ian is thinking "Norman Rockwell" but I have no issue with that. Substituting the black surrounding doesn't seem like a solution. IMO the color in your shot is outstanding and makes it look almost like a painting. It's fantastic. Here's a rework I did retaining the great water color but eliminating part of the foreground - especially the out of focus waves in the foreground right that were only a distraction to me. I also added some contrast and clarity. Hope you don't mind I did it, only to show my point. I guess this is an example of taste - and each person has their own. This would make a nice shot on anyone's wall. Nice work!
