Morning Cactus

I took this photo a couple weeks ago in Alabama Hills. The photo description has all the info if you're a curious about my little adventure. Anyways, I don't know how I feel about this photo. I feel like I am biased to like it because I took it and it has sentimental value to me, but when I look past that, I don't feel quite like I've captured the moment as well as I could have, either with the photo composition itself (angle, lens, etc..), or through post processing. Any feedback would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

I would be interested see how this would have worked as a floral photo. Focus on the large flower head on, with short DoF, and let the rest of the plant provide the background. The other thing might be to shoot it as a landscape and put the cactus in the lower right. Not sure what that might allow with the slope of the desert and the mountains in the distance. Might be very dramatic.

I think it could be worth it to go over again in post processing. Looks like you have a good base image that could be enhanced quite a bit to take it up a notch. Dodge and burn on the mountains and foreground plant will create depth and overall doing some selective color adjustments for the sky, sunlight on the peaks, the sandy ground, and the flowering plant.
