Shooting in the Rain?

Does anybody else here like to go out in the cold and wet? Here in Southern Utah, it can be the only way to capture some of these views free of any other hikers in the frame. Especially for the more popular of hikes.

That's exactly what it took to get this shot. The 30 second exposure made it so you can't see the rain, but it was pouring pretty good during this particular shot.

I took this shot of Punch Bowl Falls in the Columbia River Gorge in the pouring rain. It was a good validation of the weatherproofing of my Canon DSLR. Of course, I was drenched. I was wearing waders to get into the center of the canyon to line up the shot. I did have to work furiously with my lens cloth to keep the water drops off the front of the lens. Worth it though. Yes, I don't mind shooting in the rain. Usually means good light for shooting water when you have an overcast sky.

If I'm dealing with the struggle of shooting in the rain, I'm making sure the viewer knows it was raining as well haha. Usually that means an exposure for what I want and a faster exposure to capture the rain and then blend with Lighter in PS.

Haha, I may have to try that one! Show them what it really took to get the image. ;)
