Storm Clouds over a Town

Photographing storms is something I've wanted to do for a long time. It just seems like I'm never prepared when they arrive, but a couple nights ago I got a little lucky.

I was soaked by the time I got to my car, but it was all worth it for this image. However, I'll make sure to be a little more prepared next time.

A few minutes after I took this photo, it started to rain. I quickly packed up and slipped a rain cover over my camera bag. While I do hike the bluff on occasion, I am not familiar with where the trails lead to. I was just hoping the trail I was on lead to the car lot. Luckily I ran into another hiker and he pointed me in the right direction. The trails started to get a little slick and large puddles formed. My glasses were also fogging up and it became increasingly difficult to make my way down. There were a few times I slipped walking along the trail, but caught myself. Finally, after about twenty minutes, I made it to my car.

If you decide to hike, make sure you know the trials and keep an eye on the weather.

Wow I would kill for a shot like this unfortunately I don’t live near any high elevation to get this perspective nice grab

Thanks! I feel pretty blessed to live in the area that I live in. While we don't have any mountains, we do have beautiful bluffs, rolling hills, and valleys. All of which are located in what is called the driftless region.

great shot. I'm wondering if cropping in slightly would bring out the power of the storm more? Maybe even bring up the exposure, and warmth on the left side to contrast the dark blue right side?

Thanks! I actually re-edited the image just a touch after I posted this. I do like the crop!

I actually disagree on the crop. By eliminating much of the "swirl" you're reducing the sense of motion in creates in the storm.
