I did not know what to offer my mother for mother's day.
I invited her to the firehall, she has been a firefighter for nearly 25 years, being the first female firefighter in our city. At 52 years of age, with half of an artificial knee, she continues to help save our city from fires.
My father was a lieutenant in the fire department, and sadly passed away in function nearly 10 years ago, ever since she became a communications and attack management lieutenant. Getting a shot in front of her favourite truck was for me the best gift I could give her.
I added a little flaring to the spinning lights as the in camera settings did not allow a proper rendering of the spinning fire lights.
Setup is as follows....
Nikon D750 + Tamron 24-70 f2.8 at f8 1/160th
Gridded octobox to the left with nikon sb-700 at 1/2 power
Bare Nikon SB700 hard right for rim ighting diagonal right
1 SB-700 with CTO 3/4 gel inside the trucks cabin aiing upward to light slightly
1 200w studio strobe high on each side to light up the edge of the fire truck and the firehall
Cactus v5 wireless triggers used to make all these fire constantly
I thought of posting this image in the composites section, the only composite part is the flare of truck lights which were very hard to render correctly in camera. Overall I feel this is a portrait before being manipulated :) Hence being open to new ideas in photography
Hope you like it
Dave, What can i say? That is the most wonderful present for your mum, who I just know loves it. Very well done, not just on the idea but on the execution, which has been very skillfully handled. It is full of strength, pride and all things noble about the human spirit, service to others and love. Outstanding.
Thank you Ian, my main concern was to show a powerful person, yet a loving and helping character.
And you nailed it.
Thanks again :) This made my day
I am sure the photograph made your mum's day, too.
The 13 x 19 print that I am finishing up today will probably help with that ;)
Have a bespoke frame made for it, by someone with some art and craft. Fabulous, way to set off a fabulous and priceless artwork.
