Feedback please!

Would love some feedback on the below, natural light portrait of my younger sister. Was hoping to get feedback in the "critique the community" episode, but it wasn't to be.

To put the image in context, I was hanging out with my sister at home on a Saturday afternoon, and we were both bored, and as it was hitting the late afternoon I thought it would be a great opportunity to practice, whilst also being able to get a cool picture for my sister to use on her Facebook (or tinder, whatever she chooses I suppose haha).

Your feedback/critique would be much appreciated

I like the processing, except the skin is a bit too overly done from my monitor. The head is a bit stiff, I would have had her tilt it a bit either (both directions, one shot of one direction and another shot of the other direction). The holding the hip is cliche, maybe put some fingers in her pants pocket and create the similar bend in the elbow. I would have put away the sunglasses.

Thanks Chris, much appreciated!

I think you have a nice snap of your sister who looks good in the photo with a very pleasant and natural smile. The main issues I have are;

1, Why shoot her leaning against such a wall, which is a very strong element, bold geometry and strong colour, adding nothing to her portrait but rather detracting from her by forcing your eyes away from her face and to the wall.

2, It is over exposed/too pale, a tad.

3, I think shooting on a longer lens, upto but not more than twice the focal length you used, and from from slightly closer in, framing from just below the third from top button, collar button and 2 more in shot, to include some T shirt would have made the image more 3D and so more natural, whilst focusing the viewer on her lovely smiling face and allowing the background to fall even more out of focus.

I don't mind the glasses, they relate to the obviously sunny weather and relaxed feel of the shot but also the blue sky reflection matches the overshirt and her earring.

Thanks Ian, great feedback!

I honestly think the skin ton and the exposure are good. It's bright but It dose not look like you lost any detail from your expouser choice. The one thing that really sticks out to me is the focus. To me it looks like the eyes are off. When I'm culling photos that is a non starter to me. Even if I really like everything else about the photo.

thanks martin!
