It seems to be a well-composed shot... but for some reason, I'm not picking up much "feel" to it. Maybe it's the cropping... try bringing it in closer, perhaps? There's not much body language to it, so keeping it this far out isn't communicating that much. Perhaps closing in on her face would expose more nuance?

That was a really got point Tom, thanks for the tips, i will work on that.

This is a strong image and I do sense sadness. The eyes looking down and slightly away from the lens help with this as does the low angle and the darkness of the room and the soft pose of the hand. I like it.

It might be interesting to try diffeent crops, if you have more image not printed here. Perhaps crop to the left just past her hand but include more dark room space to the right, so she is looking out of the picture as well as out of the room. It might add something, who knows. I also suspect just a little looser framing at the top might help to take the drama down a touch allowing more of the pathos to come through. Interesting challenge to maximise the sadness in this poignant image. Maybe a darker, not black, wardrobe choice would have worked even better than the "white" top she is wearing, no patern no texture, to distract from the face?

Thank you Ian, all the points noted, i will be posting another shot from my sadness series soon, will await your response on that too...
