You’d be forgiven for thinking that this is a photo of a mountain range underneath a starry sky. But look a little closer at the tree-line and you’ll notice a huge giveaway about what’s really happening.
Filmmaker Kevin Wolf is based in San Francisco and recently took this shot at California’s Yosemite National Park. After taking the image, he observed that the sand and pebbles in the lake closely resembled a night sky. Flipping the image (as you’ve seen it at the top of this article) only re-iterates how much the clear water reflecting the mountains and sand looks exactly like a night sky, with only the ripples in the center giving away what’s really happening. ‘'I flipped this photo upside down because the sand under the river kind of looked like stars," Wolf explained.
Unsurprisingly, after posting the photo on Reddit, it quickly trended at No. 1, with some users commenting that it looked like a shot of night transitioning to day. Despite the park (which covers more than 740,000 acres) attracting millions of visitors every year, other Reddit users have been claiming this is the "best star photo of Yosemite" so far.
If you're intrigued to see more of Wolf's work, you can find him at his website, Facebook and Instagram.
