Øye Stave Church

Øye Stave Church is one of the few Medieval wooden churches in Norway today. The church, built in the 12th or 13th century, was originally situated in a slightly different place, closer to the lake Vangsmjøsa. It was dismatled in 1747 when a new church was built, and important parts of the construction were stored under the floor of the new church and then forgotten.
In 1935, during restauration of the new church, these old parts were found. It was decided that the parts were enough to reconstruct the stave church. This was done during the 1950's and -60's, resulting in the church we see today.
