For this shot, I wanted a cinematic, almost surreal vibe for the couple — something that felt both elegant and a little edgy.
We set up two lights: a strobe behind the car to backlight and bring out the texture of the smoke, and a key light camera-left to highlight the bride and groom. My second shooter played a crucial role, gently moving the smoke around to give it shape and flow without completely drowning the scene. The goal was to let the car’s headlights cut through the haze while still keeping the hotel faintly visible in the background — enough detail to anchor the location without distracting from the subjects.
Between timing the movement of the smoke and balancing the ambient light with the strobes, it was definitely a bit of a dance — but when everything lined up, the scene came alive. The couple, the Maserati, the moody light beams, and that hint of architecture in the distance all came together just the way I envisioned.
