In the peak of what is a very hot summer, the Chambal rover in eastern Rajasthan offers the wonderful spectacle of hatching of Gharial (Gavialis gangeticus) eggs. A large, fosh eating crocodile, the highly endangered species has very restricted range in India and Nepal. The babies cluster at the water’s edge and call out to their parents. This lasts for few weeks after which they disperse and become solitary.
