Self portrait - Pilot and his car

50MM · f/5.6 · M · ISO 100

A self portrait made for a Halloween Photo contest at work.
The the final image and the initial concept are totally different.

Due to some unforeseen circumstances (the workplace parking lot not being empty even at a late our; issue with the tripod head that started to wobble), the original concept was scrapped and I had to rethink the image.

Initially I wanted to shoot in a part of the parking lot where everything was symmetrical and the back wall was way further. Also, the shoot was supposed to be lit by studio flashes. Since the tripod head started moving, I could not get 2 identical shots, so moving the flashes around the car was not an option.

Finally, I ended up using 1 shot lit only with the parkinglot lights instead of the flashes, and added 2 Godox RGB lights, one in the back lighting the ceiling above the car, the 2nd highlighting me while I was standing by the car in racing gear.

I was on a hurry since I shot the car on a Tuesday after 20:00 and had to make the trip (1h) back home to edit the shot and have it ready for the contest the following morning. I arrived home at 22:45 and finished the edit at 02:30.

The editing was quite extensive, since I had to remove unwanted reflections in the car.
