Fireworks are smaller than the big city extravaganzas, so getting full photos involves holding the shutter open longer. The combination of dark skies and camera settings got 30 second exposures when shooting aperture priority.
I love the colorful random colors against the black sky background. The small city location provides minimum light pollution.
