Are they around all the time, or are they on their way south or north or something? Migration
These are migratory. They are in New Mexico fall and winter then move to the Artic Tundra breeding grounds. This wildlife area plants corn and there are a number of large ponds built in the area that provide them a safe place to spend the night.
Was the area created for them? And also, is New Mexico where you live?
The refuge was created for them and other water fowl. There are lots of other ducks, swans, and Sandhill Cranes in the area. I live in Augusta, Georgia.
