An invisible layer over your factory paint
Paint protection film is a clear thermoplastic urethane bonded to the panels that take the hits. Its top coat is self-healing: warm it, and the fine swirls from washing close on their own. The colour under it does not change, and neither does the gloss.
Ottawa is hard on a front end. On the 417 and the 174, behind an aggregate truck, stone arrives at highway speed and every strike takes the clear coat a little deeper than the last. From November to April the sand and brine sit in each of those chips and work at the primer. The gravel shoulders out to Carp and Greely finish what the highway started. Paint protection film takes those hits instead of the paint, on a leased car that has to go back clean as much as on one you plan to keep.
The films we install are 3M, Hexis BodyFence and STEK, with manufacturer warranties of up to 10 years against yellowing, cracking, peeling and staining, and our own 5-year workmanship warranty on the install. Every edge is trimmed by hand and tucked behind the panel. That is the difference between paint protection film you can find on the car and film you cannot.
