The figure skater.
This is the latest addition to my series on local organisations in Trelleborg. This week features the young talent Gabriel Folkesson. Gabriel has been skating for 8 years making him 5 years old when he began.
This shoot was a real challenge to pull off, but challenges are fun and it's not a good photoshoot unless there's a real risk of getting lobotomized with an ice skate.
Getting the lighting right was actually harder than I anticipated, I wanted to go for a hard crosslight, but the ice kept reflecting too much light so that didn't really work. One solution would have been to move the light closer to the designated jumping area. But that wasn't really something I wanted to do, even though Gabriel knew his stuff, didn't want to risk injury to either him or my strobes in case he didn't stick the jump. So I decided to move my Einsteins back behind to a 45 degree position like if you were to set a rim-light for a portrait.
Actually moving on the ice was fun too, last time I was on ice, I was ten and had skates on. This time I was carrying a bunch camera equipment and moving with the grace of a 90-year old lady.
