Mel and the Snail

A few of us went out to Mar Chiquita near Manatí, Puerto Rico. It's a nice little beach with a huge rock formation on either side. A few of us climbed the rocks and found a bunch of colorful snails among the rocks.
Mel picked up this snail and held it. I chose to take this picture and make the snail the subject more than Mel. She's beautiful, sure, but the snail is a work of art. So I tried to focus on it and use the depth of field to blur Mel's characteristics a little bit. If I could, I would have used some sort of reflector to illuminate her face better. But this was a very spontaneous picture.
