The Andromeda galaxy is the most distant object in the sky that you can see with your unaided eye! Easy to spot using the 3rd star in the front leg of Pegasus and start hopping towards the milky way.
Wow, that is brilliant! I've been meaning to shoot these kind of deep space photos. Do you mind sharing details of your setup? :)
sorry for the super late reply, but this image was captured with a refractor telescope (like a prime lens) at 330mm f/4.7 with a mono astro camera using a 4/3" sensor. Setup was on an iOptron IEQ45 Pro for tracking. You could get a similar image using a 400mm lens and APS-C camera, or 500mm lens and full frame sensor.
To back up your view, this definitely does not need a foreground haha!
