I had never been to Mount St. Helens before this photography visit to the Johnston Ridge Observatory, nothing compares to the view in person; majestic, amazing, breathtaking in the devastated landscape even after 40 years. I sat alone as night turned to total darkness, viewing the mountain to capture the milky-way, it was unnerving to an extent being so close and seeing the power of the 1980 eruption.
