Mt. Rainier and lenticular clouds at sunset. This mountain is high on the list of places I want to come back an explore this year as I only spent a day in the park in 2020.
For this long exposure I took (10) 2 second exposures and merged them together into Photoshop to create this "20" second long exposure.
Thanks John! Such a bummer to hear about your visit. I hope next time you get some epic conditions at Rainier. It was pretty quiet on the end of the lake I shot at. Lots of people coming and going but few stayed to enjoy it.
Magnificent light, great reflection. I like the movement and "bending" of the clouds.
I like the shot. My only comment is the highlights in the sky are so blown out, but the lake doesn't show as much variance. I think the brightest highlights toned down in the sky would make more sense in the water . Hopefully if you exposures were only 2 seconds you may have some with the highlights not so blown out. Other than that, love the shot.
Hello and thanks for the comment. I did blow out the highlights while shooting this and sometimes that just happens :) I was using a 6 stop ND while shooting a manual time lapse and sometimes light meters will read incorrectly when you have a dark ND on top of the lens. Reflections are darker than skies ever are so generally yes the highlights will have variance from a reflection to the sky.
Gorgeous shot buddy! I made it up there for one day last year as well, tried to photograph this location in the morning and got shut out with some of the thickest fog I have ever seen, ruined the entire morning, never saw the mountain the entire time I was there. Although a lot of people photograph this lake at sunrise I really like the light at sunset and there is probably a lot less people as well!
