For this shot I placed two flashes on the road (camera left just outside the frame). I was lucky to catch two additional lights from a fellow photographer who placed them roadside on a small tripod to light the the front of the car and the dust.

In addition to that, I caught two lights from a fellow photographer who placed them roadside on a small tripod to light the the front of the car and the dust. We use to place flashes quite close to the action but not where we estimate the cars would drive. Haven't had any objections by the marshals so far. You may have noticed this is shot on a country road winding through vineyards and forests. Throughout the race these cars tackle bigger things than some tiny flashes (mine are remotely controllable on camera flashes from godox).
