with my 7d and a Sigma 18-250 mm. I used f5.6 at 1/250 sec

Robert, great subject, exposure and colors, your composition could be stronger by eliminating a lot of the negative space. At this point all you could do is crop, either vertically or better just on the flower and the unfurling bud which I feel are your main subject getting as close as the image will tolerate.
