On a recent business trip to New Orleans, I took time off to scout some iconic landmarks. The St. Louis cathedral looked like a good choice, but the area was chock full of people as it's a popular tourist spot. So I went back at just before sunrise the next day to get this shot, and was surprised that street vendors were already setting up for the day. Luckily I was still able to find a composition that worked and minimized random people in my frame.
I decided to process in b/w, which is not common for me. I found working in b/w to be rather rewarding as it really forced me to focus on the relationship between light and shadow in my image. It took a *ton* of Curves adjustments to get the look I wanted (the original conversion was so flat and lifeless), and that in itself was a great learning experience.
Hope you like it.
