Fountain Pen - White Heron Urushi

The Danitrio Takumi maki-e "White Heron" fountain pen. Japanese maki-e painting involves covering an ebonite pen body with many layers of urushi and applying gold powder and other materials to the top layer while it is still tacky. Maki-e painting is done with tiny brushes including mouse hair brushes (the brushes, when they can be found, cost the equivalent of $500 each). The maki-e artist's signature can be seen written in gold and red on the end of the pen.
