Frida is a small boutique in Midtown, Detroit highlighting a heavily curated collection of apparel, accessories and gifts. Inspired by it’s namesake, Frida Kahlo, the shop is located in The Park Shelton, which was a luxury hotel home to Frida while Diego painted the murals at the DIA. The shop is an ode to Frida’s time in the area and her individualistic personality which purveys into modern women’s lib and popular culture. This series sought to capture the deep, rich, colors and textures present in the Frida collection, in a moody, earthy Brother’s Grim inspiration. As an objection to repeated outsourcing and whitewashing in Detroit advertising and commercial photography, Remy and Claire chose to work with a highly selected team, maintaining a standard of commercial diversity and locality – an option that is all too possible and often overlooked in the area.
