I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with a professional mermaid and her dive instructor friend for this photoshoot. We wanted to capture the encounter of an underwater explorer and a siren. No photoshop was used for this scene, the mermaid tail is tailor made from silicone. Natural light.

Well done !
Thank you! :)
Good composition. Why did you choose B&W ?
Thank you! There were many reasons for going BW. I think black and white creates the moody feeling I was after. The image was quite monotone even in colour because it was shot with natural side/backlight, so I thought it was better to create contrast just with highlights and shadows rather than trying to pull out nonexistent colours. Also, as this is black and white, you can't really tell, where this is located geographically, so you could imagine this happening anywhere. Finally, I have started a BW series of an underwater explorer, so this now fits nicely into the series. Phew, that was a long answer, but there you go. :)
Thank you for that long answer ;-)
I guess it's not easy to have colourful images underwater, that's a very good point.
It's a really nice image anyway. Congrats !
Sure, no problem! You are right, I forgot to mention that the colours indeed are absorbed quite quickly in water, especially red and orange. I have other images from this set that are taken in a more shallow depth and hence there's more colour. Thanks once more! :)
I sat here for a few minutes trying to find the perfect word to describe the awesomeness of this image. Words failed me, I love it!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! :)
