In the Dublin mountains there is an area called Montpelier Hill. It is famous for an old structure called "The Hellfire Club" due to its ugly but interesting history of sacrifices, devil worship and ghost stories.
On the other side of Montpelier Hill however is Carthy Castle. As a Dublin native I am very familiar with Montpelier Hill and The Hellfire Club yet I only became aware of Carthy Castle while researching old ruins near me that I could shoot.
I made the short but rough hike to the top. By tough I mean thorns, nettles and shorts being a bad combination as well as having to make lots of noise with my tripod to scare off a large calf who had managed to escape the surrounding fields!
For once I made it to a nice location early and actually had to wait for the sun to dip some more to get the shot I wanted. I also got lucky as the sun had fallen behind the clouds and was about to fall back behind when It was where I wanted it to be. Sometimes you get all the lucky breaks!
